Blog nr. 51 Sports

Sports. Not too familiar with it. Never do sports, never watch it.
BUT, that was till now... Besides the (almost) daily bikeride to work (20 Km/h average 40 minutes one way trip) I am gonna try swimming!

I hear spandex and speedo are great on a toned body so I am gonna try to get my body toned.
I already am buttless but I have to get rid of the spare tire (which by the way is a great floatation device). As from 8 PM I am a sportsvirgin no more (I did do sports when I was youger but too long ago to let it count). Wish me luck! If I make it out of the pool alive you'll hear from me again! If not...it was great knowing y'all!

My photo is gone...

I (accidentilly) removed my pic from my own webspace and now it's gone in Blogger too.
Sorry for that but I have been trying to fix that. Yessss, trying. And my pic doesn't get accepted. Not from hdd nor url... Puzzled me. As soon as I get the pic up and running again you will be terrored with the sight og me again! So be warned!!

Today is Airborne day again and I don't feel like it! We're going with 6 adults and 6 children.
First to the parachute dropzone on the Ginkel Heath (Ginkelse Heide). And after that..?

I guess this year it's becoming more and more a bit of a dying tradition as is the post war generation. They're not a tradition but they're dying. Fewer can make it to the memorials ech year and after last year's 60th anniversary it all becomes smaller in proportion. Last year we had loads of jumpers. This year only 1 battalion.

But I wanted some time for my own today... Don't ask why but it feels that way.
Today we'll be gone all day. Tonight we'll be visiting Mr. & Mrs. DD (known to my sister for who they are). It was their wedding anni yesterday (12 years) but that's not why we are visiting.

Oh, before I forget. Happy Birthday sis! Although it's not until 2 days from now...

On Sunday we'll be heading for church and afther that to Wim jr. (Anita's lilbro).
Housewarming and his mistress' birthday. That's his girlfriend but I felt like saying mistress because she likes to tease him. Pinching his leg (horsebite) and G knows what more ;-)

So that only leaves Sunday nite for some Me-time... That's why I am up since 5:15 AM so I have time to do some blogging and stuff...

I'll be doing something else from now than!

10 Reasons to Ride a Bike

Burning calories while enjoying great scenery. If you're on a fast two hour ride in the hills, you might burn 1,200 calories, maybe more.

Exercise doesn't mean looking like a complete fool bouncing up and down to dance club music.

Cycling isn't as hard on the knees like other types of exercise.

Have you ever seen anybody jogging with a smile on their face? You can smile while riding, though you might catch a few bugs too.

The sense of freedom and power was just as exhilarating as ever. Watching the trees roll by... riding up and down hills... all from the power in my own two legs.

Great pick up lines, now that the Tour de France is famous. "Like the bike? It's Lance's..." Dates on cycles are fun too!

It's a lot cheaper than filling your gas tank these days.

When else in your life can you go play in traffic without worrying what your mom would think? (Do be prepared to think fast and ride well.)

Riding your bike to work is cheap, cool, and is a lot of fun.

You look good in Lycra®, so why not show off to everyone?

Funpic part II

The days go by so quick...

Man... I just said to Anita yesterday last nite that the evenings are much too short to do yer thang. I mean...I am away from home for 10 hours and then all I have for the evening is 4 hours to do it all. Eating, showering, bringing kids to bed (occasionally ok), repairing my bike, flat tire, repairing the toilet (not done yet), going to the police station for Lampegietersavond (celebration of the fact that the lights go on on earlier again). Lampegietersavond is a real Veenendaal thing. It takes us back to way back when the lights at home and work were oillamps. The Oliegieter (lampegieter) had to go by every house to fill the oiltank up again so the people of Veenendaal had light in the evenings again. Anyway, I had to go to the policestation because I will be a civil traffic cop for the event. Making shure that it's safe for the kids to go through the streets without being overrun by cars. This is my second year doing so. The kids go through the streets holding a lantern (or lampion as we call it) symbolising the light that they bring back into the streets. They all dress up as princesses, pirates, cowboys, knights, soldiers or whatever and after the parade we all drink hot chocolate eating cookies with cinamon and sugar on top (Langetjes). The celebration started around 1549 when some belgian workers came to Veenendaal. They started the Saint Gilles Fest which was celebrated on the Monday closest to Sept. 17th

By the way. The girl on the lower left side dressed up (in red) as Pipi Longstocking is Tessa. Our youngest. This pic is from last year.

From the site of the Buro for Tourism in Veenendaal (Dutch):

Lampegietersavond:
Thuis kreeg men chocolademelk en kaneelbeschuitjes.

Yay, she's going to Calgary! But...I wanna come to! :-(

If y'all start peddling on the far end of Nothern America maybee you can move it a bit closer to Europe so we're back where it all started. All continents nice and tidy next to each other where everyone can see what happens more or less. Let me ride thought the UK to the US and Canada for the holidays. That would be much better. More forests, mountains and more friends closer to home. Maybee you'll have to say goodbye to those hard winters but you can drive to Paris, Barcelona, spend winters on the Costa Brava in Spain. Ride to Turkey, buy Kneipp stuff for in your tubby, the best cigs and sigars! Are there any bad things about this moving Northern America towards Europe? I don't think so! Did I mention the Stroopwafels already? And the Dutch beer and Liquors? Another great thing to moving out here is that you put America out of the destructive path you call 'Huricane Alley'.

So get out your peddling gear and start peddling!
